Everyone knows by now that a new year means an onslaught of people flocking to the gym, starting a new diet, creating new routines and committing to becoming a whole new person. I think it is absolute BS!
Allow me to explain.
We put crazy amounts of pressure on ourselves when presented with a fresh, brand new year. I love setting goals and goals are important but all too often we hear the story or become the story of abandoned resolutions. I believe it's because we have a deeper problem that lies within our mindset. We don't need to become a whole new person to live the life we desire or to meet the goals we want to accomplish. No matter what they look like.
Let's be real, most of us know what it takes to meet the goals/resolutions we could set for ourselves. You're thinking of them right now.
It is something along the lines of exercise, eat well, sleep better/more, hydrate, work-life balance, connection, nature, time with loved ones. Obviously we can all add our own little specific details but we all have the same underlying themes. It's that way for a reason. WE KNOW what it takes for a happy, fulfilled life. Ripe with purpose, filled with passion, health and longevity. The problem lies in the DOING far more than the KNOWING.
We need New Year, CONSISTENCY or New Year, CONSISTENT ME.
I like the person that I am. Why would I want to become a whole NEW ME in the new year? I have worked very hard to love myself! Not by forcing change or becoming someone else, but by accepting who I am and holding myself accountable for things that keep me from growth. So forget the new year NEW ME bullsh!t.
We need to be committed to one simple thing: CONSISTENCY. That is what allows discipline to over take fleeting motivation and action to take over head knowledge. Instead of buying 5 planners, starting a different diet every week and going back to the gym for only a month, let's focus on the small sustainable habit of getting consistent. Take action on the things you know. Focus on what you can ADD to your life rather than all the habits you need to kick. Appreciate yourself, who you are at your core and be gentle and encouraging rather than harsh and criticizing.
Heres to 2024: The year we all embrace consistency in the hard things, the easy things, all the things we know we need in order to be our best selves.
Cheers!
